Stefaan Dobbles, exporter Gerdo:

''Cabbage pices 40 eurocents lower that last week''

For exporter Gerdo his leeks, tomatoes, carrots and cabbage are important export products. ''Momentarily the only product we don't trade in is leek, because there are only small volume of young leeks, and because the prices are very high'', Stefaan Dobbels explains. ''The new harvest is also a little later than last year.''

"At the moment we sell lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. Sales of these vegetables is difficult at the moment and the prices are disappointing. Last week there was a good demand because of the the nice weather, but now it is a lot calmer. For lettuce prices have decreased from 50 to 10 cents. This mostly has to do with the beautiful weather and the higher production. Germany also is an important competitor. In the Pfalz, the harvest has started again and we are noticing that. This happens year after year. "Gerdo offers various salads such as lettuce, red and green oakleaf lettuce and batavia lettuce.

For the coming weeks Stefaan expects a better market. ''I think it will be busier. The new month has begun and hopefully the demand will increase.''
