An estimated rise in world peach production
INTERNATIONAL MARKET
In the 2011/2012 campaign it's estimated that the world production of peach will reaches 18.1 million tons, some 10% above the previous season. This raise is due to the fact that in China there was a raise in the plantations and also to better profits, making projections for China to be about 10 million tons of peaches and nectarines.
Like production, the world market is also dominated by China, with more than 63% of the world offer, while in the United States and in the European Union it adds up to 32%. The world consumption in fresh is expected to keep stable, with a bigger consumption in China but also a reduction in the European Union.
World exports are estimated to be about half a million tons, with a 5% growth. Main exporters are the European Union, US, Chile and China. The growth in exports happens in Chile and China, being compensated by reductions in EU-27 exports. Russia remains the main world importer, followed by the US, Canada and the EU-27.
South Africa also grew 15% in peach exports and estimations point to 1.1 million boxes of the Transvalia, Rich Lady, San Pedro and Fairtime varieties, representing 53% of the peach exports by this country this season.
Main destinations for South African peach exports are the United Kingdom, Europe and Russia, with a rapid growth in the Middle East.
Due to rain in the Winter months, stone fruit from Australia is also trying a boost in size, quality and amounts.

NATIONAL PRODUCTION
Peach is one the temperate climate orchards that represents a bigger variety richness and in Argentina it's projected by a wide extension in latitude and the different climates that favor its production in different moments of the year.
Argentina is the biggest peach producer in MERCOSUR and it's among the three mains sellers in the South Hemisphere, managing its products to reach markets in the North Hemisphere during the counter-station.
Campaign 2011/12
In the present season, Winter and Spring were benign. In the different producing regions it was cold enough to get a good hour cumulative with low temperatures. On the other hand, there were no serious frosts or hails. Flowering and fructification was abundant in Mendoza.
In the present campaign, flowering returns for every peach and nectarine species were between excellent and good, making productions optimal.
Argentinian production of peach ascends almost to 270,000 tons. The main producing area is in the Mendoza province, with 88% of the total production in the country, followed by the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Río Negro, Misiones and Neuquén.
Mendoza province produces around 237,000 tons of peach and sends 66% of it to the industry to be processed in cans with syrup. Around 81,000 tons are destined to fresh consumption.
Talking about varieties, the ones found in this amount are: Elegant Lady, O' Henry, Red Top, Spring Lady, Flavor Crest, Rich Lady, White Lady, Snow Giant, September Snow and Sugar Lady.
