Peruvian grapes, bananas, citrus and asparagus export could see an increase of 15% during 2012, reported Agraria.pe.
According to William Arteaga Donayre of (Promperu) in the first four months of the year, fresh exports have grown considerably to international markets like Japan, China and the U.S.
Also, the specialist said that in this period, products that are showing greater dynamism are: grapes, pomegranates, citrus and mangoes, especially to the Asian market.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag), agricultural exports increased 16.6% during the first quarter of this year, reaching sales of over USD $900 million.
According to the Office of Economic and Statistical Studies (EEO) of Minag, the increase was due to better export prices of products such as asparagus that grew 191%, mangoes (44%), prepared artichokes (15%) and grapes. Between January and March 2012, the largest foreign sales for the industry were fresh grapes that grew 29%, asparagus (13%), frozen asparagus (65%) and Cavendish Valery type bananas (17%).
Similarly, fresh avocado exports with a growth of 135%, vegetable seeds (784%) and other fresh fruit (322%), among others.
Of a total of 123 markets where agricultural products are used, the U.S. captured 23% of the value total, followed by Holland with 13%, Colombia (7%), Germany (6%), Spain (6%) and Ecuador (5%), representing 60% the total sent.
