Palestinian grower has worldwide reach

Palestine Garden, a company that grows fresh herbs throughout Palestine, has a global reach with its produce assortment. Husam Alzurba, of Palestine Garden, said they have about 20 hectares spread throughout the region where they grow a variety of crops.

"We have chives, lots of chives, and rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme and all other varieties of herbs," said Alzurba. "We also have a variety of planting areas spread throughout mountainous regions and valley sites." Alzurba explains that the mix of planting is needed in order to find the right combination of crops and growing regions.

"Not all of our regions are suitable for planting all of our crops," he said. "Something might succeed in the Jordan Valley in winter, so we repeat that."

Their healthy mix of growing regions has allowed them to export their produce all over the world. Alzurba estimates that Palestine Garden shipped about 1,000 tons of produce to different countries last year.

"We are exporting to Russia, France, Norway and England," he said, "and under our brand name, we've exported cucumbers to Brazil, Morocco, Turkey and the United States."
