New organisational structure Makro Spain and Portugal

The executive committee of the Metro Group and the management of Metro Cash & Carry recently announced a new organisational structure for Makro Cash & Carry in Spain and Portugal. On 1 May 2012 the two offices in the countries will be combined to a central office in Madrid. The Spaniard José María Cervera will take up the management of both offices. A large part of the management functions of Metro Portugal will move to Metro Spain and be integrated in the new organisation.
The aim is to improve the competitive position and the use of the synergy between the organisations of both countries.

The wholesaler in Portuguese Aveiro will be closed. The introduction of the new organisational structure and the closing-down of the wholesaler in Aveiro have consequences for the staff. By the end of 2012 the number of employees in Portugal will decrease by about 150 people.
