Swiss asparagus commences

It just started in Switzerland the harvest of green and white asparagus.

The first Swiss asparagus are just arrived and consumers prefer the local product. Switzerland is a special market regarding asparagus. The consumption of it is quite important, with 0.66kg per person. There's a low local production - only 248 tons, while imports grow up to 9,490 tons, registered in 2010.

In 2010, total imports added up to 9,490,763 kg. Switzerland received 1,058,448 kg from Germany, 2,636,937 kg from the United States, 1,150,885 kg from Peru, 380,561 kg from France, 236,479 kg from Italy, 284,326 kg from the Netherlands and 2,060,373 kg from Spain.
