"The Dutch retail consumption is way behind that of other European countries like France, Italy and Germany, who are the leading the pack as far as frozen fruit consumption is concerned", Hennie continuous. "The consumer is beginning to appreciate the comfort and quality of frozen fruit, harvested at the moment of plenty and full of taste. The price-taste ratio between frozen and fresh is an interesting side of this business.
"At this moment the industry is the major user. The juice producers are very creative introducing new tastes, and an exotic flavour is available every day in the fresh juices shelves. But also the fresh fruit salads contain frozen fruit, and same goes for the bakery industry and the catering. They have discovered the advantages of frozen fruit and benefit from that”.
"Home stock, is another advantage. Frozen fruit is available when needed in the stores but is also easy to stock at home. Despite the fact that fresh and frozen seem to be two worlds apart, they have a lot in common, like food-safety, quality, availability, pricing. These are the daily challenges we are looking at with Com-Freeze!.
"The credo "Less is more" applies to our house-rule "From field to the table", Hennie explains. Com-Freeze mainly works with fixed partners with their own IQF Facilities and production, this to make the supply-chain as short and transparent. Traceability, food-safety and communication benefit from this approach.
"Recent market research by CBI shows that frozen-food trade is a market where a lot of traders, middle man, etc. are active, in the fresh market this is in the past. Com-Freeze wants to put this in the past for her clients in frozen fruit and vegetables. This is where my experience in the fresh really pays of, with my network, especially the suppliers, we are able to deliver from "Field to the table", and we want to be an innovating partner in the frozen fruit and vegetables.
"Com-Freeze is located in Bergschenhoek, the Netherlands, where our office and cold-store is housed with Distribution Unit. The following countries will have a leading part in supplying a complete assortment of exotics: Costa Rica, Peru, Chile but also Thailand, Turkey and Colombia are our reliable suppliers. Com-Freeze buys directly from IQF/Export companies to achieve a short supply chain to comply with food-safety and quality. The export is focused at delivering in European countries, but some relations outside Europe have shown interest, and we will give them a warm welcome with frozen fruit”.
