Netherlands: Kaaij Group constructs first 10 ha. KUBO-Ultra Clima greenhouse
Ronald Verkade (Verkade Klimaat), Jan Vellekoop (PDI Scherming), Wouter Kuiper (KUBO), Dirk van der Kaaij (Director Business & Development Kaaij Group), Rob Bal (CFO Kaaij Group), Cor van der Kaaij (General Director Kaaij Group) toast the realisation of the first KUBO-Ultra Clima greenhouse in the Netherlands.
The innovative character, the customer orientation and the entrepreneurial zeal of the Van der Kaaij brothers have led to many innovations in the past few years. As one of the first market players, Cor and Dirk have always been pioneers of new developments. With the Ultra Clima greenhouse, a new tomato segment has been created that opens up new export markets. By December 2012 the Van der Kaaij brothers expect to introduce three new tomato lines distinguished by their delicious taste, the sustainable and safe cultivation method, year-round availability and excellent quality. In other words, a unique experience for everyone’s taste buds.

Sustainable cultivation in the Ultra Clima greenhouse
This innovative semi-closed greenhouse concept starts with savings in energy and CO2. The climate is so easily adjustable, in contrast to conventional greenhouses, the crop is always in optimal condition. As the KUBO - Ultra Clima greenhouse works with overpressure and is completely sealed with gauze, insects don’t stand a chance of entering the greenhouse from the outside. This allows clean and safe cultivation, and the aim of Pesticide-Free cultivation is achieved. Humidity is extracted in a controlled manner, resulting in considerable energy savings. Also, more light enters the greenhouse as there are far fewer ventilation windows and less light is obstructed by the greenhouse framework. With a higher CO₂- concentration and a better climate, the tomatoes from the Ultra Clima greenhouse are not comparable with what is currently on offer.
Ultra climate corridor
KUBO is the main contractor for the project and works with particular partners: Peter Dekker Installaties (screening) and Verkade Klimaat (heating). The working space is realised by Twins, and PB Techniek takes care of linking the Climate part and the electricity for the grow lights, computers and water technology. Rolls Royce is delivering a 7.5 megawatt co-generator. The 10 ha KUBO-Ultra Clima greenhouse is located in Dinteloord and puts the Kaaij Group innovatively and sustainably on the world map.
