Indonesia: Horticultural products import restrictions

The Indonesian ministry of Agriculture has announced three new measures which will restrict the import of horticulture products. The measures say that products can only be imported at four places: the international airport at Jakarta, the Belawan port in Medan, the Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya and the port of Makassar. Import through the port in Jakarta (Tanjung Priok) will no longer be possible. It concerns the import of fresh fruit, vegetables, bulbs and plant propagation material. Every container will be expected. The number of plant types that are under the arrangement will extend from 39 to 100. The ministry justifies the measure to prevent exotic diseases. But the measures will have a negative impact on the import of the named products. Various countries, including Holland, as well as the import association in Indonesia (GISMINDO), have signed a protest against it. The measures were started on the 14th of March.
