New Zealand and China would be the destinations

Peru: Asparagus points to new markets

Peru is the leading exporter of asparagus in the world and the quality of its produce has made many markets become interested in it and open their doors to more national agricultural products. The agricultural news agency "Agencia Agaria de Noticias" spoke with executive director of the Peruvian Institute of Asparagus and Vegetables (IPEH), Carlos Zamorano, who explains how this star crop is doing.

"The Peruvian asparagus is a product of excellent quality, certified not only nationally but also with international certifications like Euro GAP, Global GAP, etc.. Besides, the same markets visit the production area to certify good agricultural processes and grant certificates to producers. This has made our asparagus well known for its superb quality," noted Zamorano.

The economic recovery in some countries (particularly the U.S., which consumes 70% of the production), indicates that the export of this product will continue to grow. It is also seeking new markets and portfolios hhave been prepared for countries like New Zealand and China.

IPEH executive director, said that to achieve this market opening, he is working with the National Service of Agrarian Health (SENASA), on issues related to pesticides, so that both markets can open their doors with confidence for the arrival of the products.
