Wouter Mutsaers of Q-Potato Holland:

"A lot can be achieved with local seed production abroad"

Wouter Mutsaers, previously of Stet Holland, started his own company on the 1st of May 2011. With Q-Potato Holland Wouter is focussing on the trading seed potatoes and the import of ware potatoes. "But the emphasize is on the seeds. The consumption market is difficult at the moment, but the seed market has been positive and I was able to profit from it a little in the first year."

"In the past year I have been busy with the purchase and sales of seed potatoes, but this year I have growers, who are growing an area of 50 hectares of seed potatoes for me", says Wouter. "In the next few years there will be a large volume of seed varieties on the free market, which offers big chances, at home and abroad."

Wouter mainly wants to distinguish himself by using seeds at local-for-local. "The current price and logistic costs to get the seeds to their destination, are staggeringly high. This makes it attractive to start local production abroad. I can see that with a quick expansion I could within 2-4 years, export directly to the end client. This way the Dutch seed grower can get a higher price for their high quality seeds.
