Between 2007 and 2011 exports of fresh tangerines recorded a yearly average growth rate of 21.3%. This figure which was fairly high, was surpassed last year with an annual growth rate of 25.8% reaching exports by USD$ 64.6 million. This dynamism is due to growth in sales to the United Kingdom (37.5% of growth), Netherlands (36.8%), U.S. (3.7%), Canada (29.5%) and Ireland (49.5%).
These countries accounted for 88.9% of total orders, first place in the ranking destinations corresponded to the UK with a share of 29.5%. It is estimated that in 2012 there will remain a growth rate similar to that of last year, due to the preference of European consumers and trade liberalization in Asian countries. The Peruvian supply in a Global context only represents 1.3% of total imports of the product.
