Tacler celebrates succesfull first semester

After opening on August 1 2011, the new online fruit trading platform www.tacler.com celebrates a first semester of open service today. The website has been the subject of much debate in the industry, with many fruit traders across generations having their thoughts and opinions about whether the international fruit trade can really be accomplished via digital media. Yet the ages of successful online traders in tacler are all across the map, with some young people aged below 20 and the eldest above 60. This only goes to show that our industry does have its early adapters and pioneers across all ages, and that nobody is ever too old to learn how to be successful online.

Many well reputed produce companies are showing their faces in tacler, whether for up to date market information, or actual online trading. Some people establish new trade relations online and do their further dealings via traditional media. Others come online to score quick deals. Again others search to do programs. In some rare cases, deals are cut in open group communication, while everybody is able to follow the negotiation.

Since its opening, 2630 members from 109 countries have registered to the platform. 2354 produce companies are represented in tacler. The peak number of fruit traders online was 107 at the same time. Today, the peak number was over 90.
During the past 6 months, over 320,000 messages were shared between tacler users. At the moment of writing, the number of messages posted in tacler during the past 24 hours is 3045. The average daily exchange rate is between 2500 to 3000 messages per day. Two thirds of all messaging is private messaging, fully away from the public eye.

Not every message shared in tacler is purely trade related. For example, at present there is much discussion about Fruit Logistica attendance next week. To make distinction between different message types, all buying requests are highlighted in blue, and sales messages are highlighted green. WTB in a message indicates wanting to buy, WTS indicates wanting to sell. See the picture below for an example:
