Richard Kruier of Tuindersbelang:

"Frost in Russia desirable for cabbage market"

It got a little colder for a while, but then the end of the frost is already being seen. For the cabbage market this cold period was also far too short. Richard Kruier of Tuindersbelang, the Netherlands tells: "There is far too little demand and there is sufficient supply available in the cold stores, this results in some pressure on the market."

The limited demand results in moderate prices and the Danish cabbage especially plays an important negative role. For the larger selection, the 2kgs and sixties, the price is 5, 7 and 9 Euro respectively. The red cabbage with a price level of 11, 14 and sixteen Euro is a little better than that.

The exporters are longingly awaiting colder weather. "Especially frost in Russia or the East bloc would be desirable, because then export could finally start. The harvests in Eastern Europe have been good. Presently there is no demand at all from these areas" Richard says, who confirms cabbage of good quality this year.
