Argentina: USDA acknowledges Mendoza fruit production

The United States Department of Agriculture announced that they will officially acknowledge the oasis in the Center and South of Mendoza as areas free of fruit fly.
The measure was taken after the work made by technical organisms from both countries with the support of the Argentinian Chancellorship and the Ministry of Agriculture, Live-Stock an Fishing.

This acknowledgement will improve access conditions for fruit and vegetables from Argentina to the US market.
The measure adopted by USDA eliminates the treatment demanded in the present, reducing exporting costs and making it easier for the commerce logistics, mainly for peach, plum, pear and apricot.
It will also benefit the cherry commerce, that from now on can be exported by air with no need to be submitted to a cold treatment that would reduce its commercial quality.
Argentina is the third supplier of Cherry and bone fruit to the US with US$1,500,000.

As for pears, Argentina became the second supplier with US$32,000,000 exported, according to "Ambito Financiero".
