"2025 won't be remembered as extraordinary, but we can still categorise it as a decent, almost good campaign," reports Markus Tscholl, coordinator of Asta Frutta Alto Adige, when talking about the apple auctions that ended last week.
"Some varieties, such as Fuji and Golden, recorded a price increase compared to 2024. Others recorded constant or slightly declining prices. In any case, if we compare yields and prices, the gross saleable production for producers was fair, and even good for some."

With regard to the commercial trend, Tscholl notes that "the varieties destined for the German market suffered the most, because there was a high domestic production in Germany, up to 20% higher than the planned increases. So the market in Germany has never been lively."
"On the other hand, our customers from Spain made considerable purchases because they lacked the product. Apart from Spain, we also sold very well in Turkey, where the weather caused production drops. Stayman is also worth mentioning among the varieties with increasing prices. On the other hand, prices for Granny Smiths destined for Germany dropped."
The auctions ended at the end of October, and the bidders will receive their liquidation within a few weeks. With a number of customers that almost equals that of producers (550 registered buyers and 760 producers), Asta Frutta Alto Adige represents a historical apple business in the area, since its first experience dates back to 1960. The total area belonging to the 760 producers exceeds 900 hectares, with an expected volume of about 40-45 thousand tonnes of apples. Of the hectares under auction, about 55% are protected by nets. It should be noted, however, that producers are almost all insured. Buyers of apples at the auction also come from abroad.
