CNC Exotic Mushrooms in Heerewaarden increased its production capacity with a temporary refrigeration unit from Coolworld during the recent seasonal peak period. The company, a producer of substrate for exotic edible mushrooms, needed additional conditioned space to meet rising demand.

Maturing substrate releases heat due to mould growth. As a result, the temperature in the hall must remain stable between 20 and 22 degrees. "Otherwise, the core of the substrate becomes so hot that damage occurs. That comes at the expense of the quality of our product," says Maarten Reuken, Site Manager of CNC Exotic Mushrooms. "A stable climate is essential for us."

As one of the available halls is not conditioned to standard, the company called in Coolworld. After calculating the required cooling capacity, Coolworld installed a 500 kW chiller with three air handling units. These had to keep the temperature uniform in the space of over 20,000 m³, supported by a 40 metre air throw.

The rental solution allowed CNC Exotic Mushrooms to scale up temporarily without investing in permanent installations. Full service and monitoring were also included in the agreement. "Thanks to Coolworld's flexible rental solution, we can serve our customers optimally even during peak periods. We have extra capacity without compromising the quality of our product," says Reuken.

Coolworld also provided maintenance and digital monitoring, enabling CNC Exotic Mushrooms to track the temperature in different zones. The rental period was flexibly arranged, with no predetermined end date.
