Fruit SA appoints Piet de Jager to board

Fresh Produce Exporters' Forum (FPEF) CEO Piet de Jager joined the Fruit South Africa (Fruit SA) board on 13 November 2025. He takes over the seat previously held by outgoing FPEF CEO Anton Kruger, who stepped down on 12 November.

De Jager's appointment follows a series of leadership changes at Fruit SA during 2025. Earlier in the year, the retirement of two directors led to the appointment of three new board members. These adjustments reflect an ongoing restructuring of the organisation's leadership as it focuses on its strategic role within the fruit sector.

Fruit SA operates as an umbrella industry body facilitating dialogue between its members, the government, and other sector stakeholders. Its membership includes Berries ZA, the Citrus Growers' Association of Southern Africa, the Fresh Produce Exporters' Forum, Hortgro (representing pome and stone fruit), the South African Table Grape Industry, and the South African Subtropical Growers' Association (representing avocado, litchi, and mango growers).

The board acknowledged Kruger's period of service and noted his involvement in sector issues during his tenure. Chairman Anton Rabe said the board looks forward to working with De Jager as he joins the organisation's leadership structure.
