Blueberries from Poland have been approved for export to Taiwan, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) announced on Wednesday.
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency (APHIA) under the MOA stated that its staff completed quarantine inspections in Poland and that imports will begin once origin verification is finalised.
According to APHIA, orchards supplying blueberries must operate under the supervision of Poland's State Plant Health Protection and Seed Inspection Service (SPHPSIS). Suppliers are required to monitor and control pests such as spotted wing drosophila and keep detailed pest-control records.
SPHPSIS must also submit a list and codes of eligible packing facilities to Taiwan six weeks before each export season. Packaged blueberries will undergo sampling for export quarantine, and if any harmful organisms are detected, the entire shipment will be barred from entry into Taiwan.
MOA data shows that Taiwan currently imports blueberries from the United States, Canada, Chile, Peru, New Zealand, and Japan. In 2024, Taiwan imported 3,287 metric tons of blueberries, more than triple the volume recorded a decade earlier.
