Ukrainian apple prices fall with autumn supply

Weak demand for apples combined with a growing supply of autumn varieties is forcing Ukrainian growers to reduce wholesale prices, according to EastFruit analysts. High-quality apples are currently sold at 30–40 UAH/kg (US$0.72–0.97/kg), which is on average 12% cheaper than at the end of last week.

The market is mainly supplied with autumn apple varieties that are not suitable for long-term storage. Growers are therefore seeking to sell fruit quickly, leading to price reductions. Despite the decline, apples on the Ukrainian market are currently offered at twice the price compared to the same period last year. Industry experts link this trend to a decrease in the country's total apple harvest.
