Australia and Indonesia sign agricultural trade deal

Australia's minister for agriculture, fisheries, and forestry, Julie Collins, visited Indonesia to meet with her counterpart, Andi Amran Sulaiman, to advance two-way agricultural trade.

Ministers and officials from both countries met in early August to discuss and finalise outcomes on several agricultural matters. This included an agreement on a mangosteen operational work plan, creating a new export pathway for Indonesian fruit while managing biosecurity risks. Australia also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on biosecurity cooperation activities with the Indonesian Quarantine Authority.

Collins said these outcomes would support growth for both Australian and Indonesian farmers and producers, adding that two-way agricultural trade between the countries was valued at A$5.5 billion in 2023–2024.

"It was great to travel to Jakarta this week to meet with my ministerial counterparts, where we finalised several two-way agricultural trade and biosecurity agreements," Collins said. "These agreements will ensure more of our world-class products are on Indonesian tables and will unlock benefits for farmers and producers in both of our nations.

"The quality, safety, and reliability of Australia's agriculture, fisheries, and forestry industries are valued by our friends in Indonesia, and it's great to see how our products support Indonesia's food security."
