Egypt is enhancing its role in the global fresh strawberry sector, with exports to Germany at a peak for the past five marketing years. Data from the German Statistical Office and Global Trade Tracker, relayed by EastFruit, indicates a shipment of 3.69 thousand metric tons between July 2024 and April 2025, valued at $18.6 million.
This volume signifies an 87% rise over the previous two marketing years and exceeds fourfold the exports of MY 2021/22. It approaches the record 3.72 thousand tons from MY 2019/20.
Germany remains a primary destination for Egyptian strawberries, ranking as the third-largest market for the current marketing year after the United Kingdom. German imports represent about 10% of Egypt's total strawberry exports.
The dominant suppliers to Germany are Spain, Greece, and the Netherlands, providing approximately 90% of imports. These countries deliver consistent supplies, especially in April and May. Egypt, on the other hand, seizes the November to March window when other suppliers are less active. In MY 2024/25, Egypt's peak export months were December 2024 (1.4 thousand tons) and January 2025 (1.2 thousand tons), utilizing its timing advantage to meet off-season demand.
Despite Egypt's growing exports, Germany's total strawberry imports decreased, with an 80 thousand ton import over ten months, a 10% reduction from the prior year's 90 thousand tons. Continuing this trend, Germany may see its lowest import volume in six years by the end of MY 2024/25.
Nonetheless, Egypt may ascend into the top five strawberry suppliers to Germany as exports from other countries decline.
