Spain leads global strawberry exports with 300,000 tons

Spain holds the position as the leading exporter of strawberries globally, sending out over 300,000 tons annually. The Huelva region, in the south of the country, is central to this high output due to its conducive climate for strawberry cultivation. This advantageous positioning enables Spain to supply a considerable portion of the European market, with exports directed mainly to Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

Utilizing advanced agricultural techniques, Spain has optimized its production process to extend the growing season and meet export demands efficiently. These methods contribute to the country's consistent output, ensuring Spanish strawberries maintain their reputation for freshness and timely delivery across Europe.

Following Spain, the United States is another large exporter of strawberries, with California serving as its main production hub. American strawberries are predominantly shipped to Canada, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea, supporting the country's significant presence in the international market.

Mexico has emerged as a prominent player, benefiting from its geographical proximity to key markets in North America and a climate that permits year-round production. This has solidified its status as a substantial strawberry exporter.

The Netherlands exports strawberries grown primarily through greenhouse methods, catering to neighboring European Union countries. Likewise, Morocco exports large quantities to Europe, particularly to France and Spain, leveraging its favorable climate and cost-effective labor.

Additional exporters like Egypt, Poland, Turkey, and Greece distribute their strawberries across various regions, including the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
