"We expect to harvest 7 million kilos of watermelon this season, 15% more than last year"

This week, the watermelon harvest began in the north of Castellón, where the surface area has increased once again.

"Our watermelon harvest officially started on Wednesday, June 25. It will run until the beginning of August," stated Sebastián Torres, Benihort's Export Sales Manager. The cooperative has 100 hectares and expects to harvest 7 million kilos this season.

"We have expanded the area and expect to harvest 7 million kilos of watermelon this season, i.e., 15% more than last year," Torres stated. Watermelon accounts for nearly 35% of Benihort's total area and is its star summer product.

"The weather conditions in spring were ideal. The first harvests show excellent quality. This year, we have a wide variety of calibers to cover the needs of the domestic and export markets in France, Germany, Italy, and Northern and Eastern Europe," Torres stated.
