Hilbert Klop has acquired the shares of Jan van den Adel in Direct Source International (DSI Group), marking a leadership transition in the company. After more than 35 years in the fresh produce industry and 14 years at DSI, Van den Adel has decided to pursue new interests outside the sector.
DSI Group's primary business is Direct Source International, which supplies fresh fruit globally throughout the year. The company specialises in citrus and grapes and also distributes avocados, kiwis, dates, and other fruits. Through its Global Fresh International (GFI) arm, the group maintains supply chains focused on the Middle East and Asia.

Founding and evolution
Van den Adel co-founded the DSI Group alongside Marnix van Fraassen and Jan de Sterke. The founding vision focused on collaborative relationships with growers, suppliers, and buyers. Over time, the company established itself in the fresh produce sector, with Van den Adel concentrating on sales and sourcing activities in India and Italy. Reflecting on his tenure, Van den Adel described it as fulfilling and said the time felt right to step away from day-to-day operations.
Future direction
With Klop and van Fraassen already serving in leadership roles at both DSI and the DSI Group, the transition is positioned as a continuation of existing management. "This change supports the continuity of the company during a time of ongoing opportunities and challenges in the sector," Klop stated.
Klop now joins van Fraassen and Jan de Sterke as co-owners of the DSI Group. The group also includes a younger commercial management team that has taken on increasing responsibility for procurement and operations at Direct Source International. Arco Verweij remains a shareholder within the company's core business.
The organisation intends to maintain its current strategic direction, continuing operations across European markets and building on its existing commercial foundation.
