€6.5M raised to scale AI platform for grocery fresh departments

Freshflow, a Berlin- and Paris-based technology company, has secured €6.5 million in funding to scale its AI platform designed specifically for fresh food departments in grocery retail. The round was led by World Fund, Capnamic, Venture Stars, Caesar Ventures, and Catatumbo Capital—all of whom were returning investors.

The funding will support Freshflow's continued product development, hiring, and market expansion across Europe, particularly in response to growing demand from grocery chains in France and Germany.

Freshflow's AI platform is designed to assist grocery retailers in managing the complexities of fresh departments, where issues such as short shelf life, inconsistent data, and supply variability challenge traditional forecasting tools. By integrating multiple data signals—including weather, promotions, holidays, and floor constraints—Freshflow's system aims to generate more accurate ordering recommendations.

According to the company, retailers using the system have reported a 2–5% increase in sales and a reduction in food waste of over 20%. Groupe Yabe, a major Carrefour franchise in France, has adopted the platform across its fresh produce departments. Freshflow's approach combines probabilistic forecasting with optimisation tools tailored for the fast-moving nature of fresh produce. The platform is also supported by a user interface designed for ease of use by in-store produce managers, replacing manual ordering methods based on experience or intuition.

With the new funding, the company plans to double its team size from 30 to 50 employees in 2025. Freshflow also aims to expand its platform to additional fresh food categories and move further up the supply chain, including integration with distribution centres (DCs).

The company positions itself as a solution to reduce food waste and improve operational efficiency in one of the most complex areas of grocery retail.
