In the Fushë-Studeni area of Elbasan, Albania, Stëbleva potato growers are encountering market challenges. Despite the longstanding reputation for quality, these potatoes are not seeing demand from traders this season. Local farmers report having large quantities of unsold produce. According to them, traders who were regular buyers are opting for imported potatoes instead.
One farmer identifies the country of origin for these imports, suggesting competition with local production. Potato cultivation remains the primary income source for residents, crucial for sustaining the local economy and preventing village abandonment.
