"The past few months have been favorable for the lime market. Low volumes have led to good prices, and most limes were immediately dispatched. We are now seeing an increase in lime shipments, including from other South American countries, which is noticeable as prices are starting to decline and inventories are beginning to build up in some areas," says Rene Bouman of Fruit Market International (FMI). "However, the strict quality controls in Brazil and Europe and the issue with detained containers remain a concern for both exporters and importers."

"Brazil continues to be the leading country of origin for limes, but we are increasingly seeing limes from countries like Colombia and Peru arriving in Europe. The supply from Mexico has been declining over the past few years, as this country primarily focuses on the United States," René notes. According to the importer, limes are becoming increasingly popular across the board. "However, we do notice that good, sunny weather is very important for the smooth sales of limes. In the summer, we sell significantly more limes than in the winter."
