"Until a few years ago, the consumption of fennel was mainly in the winter season, which was also the time of year for production. Today this is no longer the case and consumers ask for it almost 12 months a year," says Marco Babbi, commercial manager of the Finò brand.

"The trend of the weather in September and until the middle of October should have brought sales to a halt, because the temperatures were still summer-like. Having said that, high quality has always remained sought after, even abroad. Of course, it was not easy to cope in terms of production, but we should not forget that there are several varieties that can maintain high quality even in difficult weather conditions.”
Babbi and his sales staff confirm that "consumption is significantly higher in stores that offer a service that takes care of the product and explains it to the consumer. Fennel is mainly bought with the eyes, where freshness is essential. A 'tired' product that has not been cared for is not an attractive purchase."

The Romagna fennel harvest is in full swing as we speak. "We will continue until the first days of November. Then we will move on to other Italian regions. We are seeing an increase in sales abroad. This is especially true in France, Germany and the Netherlands. In some weeks, selling abroad has been more stable than selling in Italy," concludes Babbi.
