According to a review by the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Russia leads in purchases of cherries, peaches and nectarines from Turkey based on the results of the 2022/2023 agricultural year.
Citing data from Trade Data Monitor, the authors of the review report that during the 2022/2023 agricultural year, Russia imported 25.169 thousand tons of cherries from Turkey, compared to 23.117 thousand tons the previous year. The share of Russian purchases exceeded 40% of the total exports from Turkey, which amounted to 57.915 thousand tons.
Furthermore, in the past season, Russia imported 153.352 thousand tons of peaches and nectarines from Turkey, compared to 118.409 thousand tons in the previous season.
Turkey is one of the largest exporters of stone fruit in the world, exporting more than 250,000 MT annually, with the majority going to the EU and Russia.
