Cheap Russian currency may reduce prices in Azerbaijani markets

In recent years, the seasonal price in Azerbaijan drops for produce have been delayed, and last year the prices for fruits and vegetables only became cheaper towards the end of summer. Independent analysts believe that the high cost of agricultural products is due to their mass export. Due to the strengthening of the Russian rouble last year, prices for seasonal fruits and vegetables remained high, and the shelves of local markets remained partially empty.

The April drop in the Russian currency has given hope to buyers. The weakening rouble can hinder agricultural exports, and any restrictions on the export of products from the regions could lead to lower prices. Currently, prices on the markets are traditionally high for this time of year, and new harvests are still on their way while old ones are ending.

Prices for fruits are actively rising, with only pears becoming cheaper. Cucumbers remain expensive, while tomatoes, after decreasing, are rising again. The Azerbaijan markets in spring are flooded with greenhouse strawberries, and prices have fallen. The harvest of young potatoes is still on its way, so there is still little of it on the markets, and it is expensive. Imported aubergines have flooded the shelves, and prices for them are falling. Prices for Bulgarian peppers remain consistently high.

Thus, Azerbaijan's consumer market is awaiting new deliveries of agricultural products and hopes that food prices will decrease shortly.
