Last week FreshPlaza published a statement from Van Ooijen Citrus with accusations against JemFruits. Eddie Fleming and Maja Jerkovic from JemFruits have written this response:
We are in the unfortunate position of having to address the slanderous article posted about JemFruits by Tom Leenheer of Van Ooijen.
Van Ooijen sought out our help (we did not ask) to sell two trucks of Spanish oranges which turned in quality within a matter of days. This was communicated to them and they understood the quality issues throughout. The sales values barely covered the huge costs incurred of warehousing and transporting the goods to the UK, including multiple rejections. This is a simple case of Van Ooijen not being satisfied with the provided results, but we really did our best considering the quality.
At the time of the article being published, there were no moneys owed by JemFruits to Van Ooijen. No invoices appear on their ledger to us. Maja Jerkovic immediately asked Tom Leenheer which funds he was referring to in his article. He is yet to make a comment on that.
Maja and Tom, aside from doing business for years, have also had a great and friendly relationship, so it was a real shock and sad to see how he dealt with this situation and by singling out an employee to ‘name and shame.’ It’s not a considerate way to do business in our industry.
Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to respond to this matter prior to publication, but would like to take this opportunity to give our response now.
