Since the beginning of the month, Rosbach-based organic trading company A&R Fruchtimpex has been offering rescued organic fruit and vegetables for regional food retailers. This service kills two birds with one stone, says managing director Klaus Reinhard.
"This product is of course clearly a thing born of the crisis. Due to the current crisis, the bio range consumer is increasingly price-conscious as well, which is why pricing is becoming more central. We want to take this trend into account with these rescue boxes, as it is particularly important to us that everyone can afford organic goods, even in times of crisis."
Klaus Reinhard and Anasse Amarouche are together at the helm of A&R Fruchtimpex Ltd.
There are also numerous initiatives in the fight against food waste, but rescued organic goods for retailers do not yet exist in this form, Reinhard continues. A total of 15 stores in the Rhine-Main area are already involved in the project and the response so far has been particularly positive, he says.
"We base the composition of our boxes on seasonal offers and we obtain the goods from existing suppliers. It concerns commodities that do not correspond to the optical standards of the trade, being too thin, too thick, too large or too small. However, the quality and taste of these fruit and vegetables is completely satisfactory. Since we already supply the respective food retail stores with regular goods, there are no additional logistics costs. This logistics advantage is reflected in the price for the consumer."
Organic trading company A&R Fruchtimpex came into being in 2018 and was founded by the two business partners Klaus Reinhard and Anasse Amarouche. The first two successful business years were followed by the Corona crisis and then the Ukraine war.
Reinhard: "As a new entrepreneur, you are always faced with new challenges these days. The expansion of our company, especially as far as the acquisition of new customers goes, is therefore extremely difficult. Nevertheless, we have been able to build a loyal customer base with our rich assortment, which consists of 85 percent organic and the remaining part of selected conventional items."
