Ed van Venrooij, Hoogvliet:

"Rising fruit and vegetable sales, sale products selling especially well"

Inflation is making headlines in every Dutch newspaper. But is this already affecting consumer fruit and vegetable spending? We asked Hoogvliet's fruit and vegetable category manager, Ed van Venrooij.

"Purchasing-wise, volumes are rising. That applies to the total package; certain product groups aren't selling faster. However, sale products are selling significantly better," he says.

"Organic offerings aren't increasing either. In these difficult times, there's less demand for organic products, which are often higher priced anyway." This winter's expected lower Dutch tomato production will not affect Hoogvliet's supply. "Unfortunately, we have to switch to Spanish products, where we used to have local, lit cucumber and tomatoes in winter," Ed concludes.
