APEDA boosts Malda mango exports

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) held a session in Malda's English Bazaar to enhance market access for Malda mangoes. Farmers, exporters, and stakeholders participated in discussions on supply chain improvements.

Held at the KVK Conference Room, CISH Campus, it included officials from APEDA, leading exporters, NABARD, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and local mango farmers. Malda is known for its GI-tagged mango varieties like Himsagar, Fazli, and Laxmanbhog, with cultivars such as Langra and Gopal Bhog.

The event aimed to boost direct interactions between growers and exporters, discussing solutions for challenges in marketing and value chain enhancements. An APEDA official noted, "APEDA is committed to connecting mango producers with export markets and creating opportunities for sustainable growth. This interaction is part of our broader strategy to build capacity and support value-added agriculture in the region."

Topics included logistics, cold chain management, and adherence to international quality standards. Participants highlighted FPOs' role in aggregating produce and strengthening bargaining power for small farmers.

The session ended with a call to position Malda as a hub for mango exports and to improve income opportunities for farmers. Stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate for better market access.
