Tajikistan celebrates its most bountiful potato harvest in history, with a total yield of 1.145 million tons in 2023, marking a 4.6% increase from the previous year. Over 798 thousand tons were cultivated in the country's farms and communal enterprises, while the remaining portion thrived in household plots.
Previously, the years 2013, 2020-2022 were regarded as the peak potato harvest seasons, each surpassing 1 million tons. Tajikistan now claims the fourth spot in Central Asia for potato production, with an average of approximately 111 kg per person, ranking third in the region after Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
As of today, Tajikistan's potato warehouses hold nearly 176 thousand tons, an increase of 8 thousand tons from 2022. Additionally, refrigerated storage contains 1,876 tons, exceeding last year's stock by 610 tons. This surplus will be used in early spring.
Despite the surplus, potato prices in Tajikistan remain stable, ranging from 0.33 to 0.42 euros per kilogram in local markets.
