For some two weeks now, the season of the popular Israeli Orri clementines has been in full swing. "On December 28, shortly before the turn of the year, the first batches arrived at our site," says Hans Peter Deutschmann, managing director of Karl Klees Ltd, based at the Düsseldorf wholesale market. "We were one of the first to offer the Orri clementines at the local wholesale market, and overall we are observing a moderate start to the season and good demand."

According to Deutschmann, there are enough of the 60-70 calibers that are common in the market. "The same applies to the Tango Gold from Spain, which we offer mainly in the 54-60 caliber." Similar to many other fruit and vegetable items, a high price level characterizes the current clementine market. "In purchasing, Israeli orris are about 3-4 euros per colli above last year's level. Whether this is due to increased logistics or production costs is difficult for me to judge at this point. The only thing I can say at this time is that prices may be adjusted downward a bit towards the end of the season in April."

In addition to Orri clementines, the Spanish Cara Cara orange with pink flesh is often described as a trend fruit. Deutschmann says, "We offer the Cara Cara from mid-December into the second half of February. However, demand for this orange is now much lower than it was a few years ago, when the fruit was obviously trendy."
Karl Klees Ltd is one of the long-established market companies at the Düsseldorf wholesale market; Hans Peter Deutschmann has been managing director and co-owner since 1990, and sole owner for the past four years. "Among other things, we are characterized by a wide range and high-quality brand portfolio, with very good supplier and customer loyalty over many years."
