Flights to Taiwan-Hong Kong canceled due to typhoon

Several flights scheduled for Monday between Taiwan and Hong Kong have been canceled due to Typhoon Mangkhut, airline companies announced.

Taiwan's China Airlines (CAL) said on their website that they have canceled flights, as did EVA Airways, another of Taiwan's major carriers.

Hong Kong carrier Cathay Dragon said on its website it has also canceled a flight from Taichung to Hong Kong, as well as flights from Hong Kong to Taichung, Kaohsiung to Hong Kong and from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung.

As of about 9 pm this Sunday, Mangkhut was about 280 kilometers west of Hong Kong, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour, said the Hong Kong Observatory.

Mangkhut, the Thai name for Southeast Asia's mangosteen fruit, is expected to continue inland into southern China and gradually weaken in the following days, the observatory forecast.
