Egypt's ag exports increase to 8.5 millions tons

Egypt's agricultural exports have risen to 8.5 million tons so far this year, an increase of nearly 700,000 tons compared to the same period in 2023, according to Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk. Citrus fruits remained the country's top export, with shipments approaching 2 million tons. Fresh potatoes followed with 1.3 million tons, while sweet potatoes reached around 310,000 tons. Beans, both fresh and dry, recorded nearly 300,000 tons, and fresh onions totaled 277,000 tons. Other key crops also showed solid performance, including 191,000 tons of grapes, 148,000 tons of pomegranates, and 117,000 tons of mangoes, along with continued growth in exports of tomatoes, garlic, strawberries, and guava.

Minister Farouk praised the coordinated efforts across the agricultural supply chain, from farmers to exporters, and highlighted the crucial role played by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine and reference laboratories in ensuring the safety of exported produce. Farouk added that ongoing cooperation with government bodies aims to open new markets and eliminate logistical and procedural obstacles to support continued growth in the export sector.
