Ausveg has acknowledged the appointment of Victoria Anderson as Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and says it plans to engage with the department on matters affecting Australia's vegetable, potato, and onion sectors.
According to Ausveg, the vegetable industry is valued at A$5.7 billion (US$3.8 billion), and growers supply more than 98 percent of the fresh vegetables consumed domestically. The organisation says that growers are operating in challenging business conditions and that policy engagement with government remains important.

Ausveg CEO Michael Coote stated that the organisation will focus discussions with the new secretary on issues affecting vegetable growers. Coote said there is ongoing work required to support food security objectives by maintaining viable vegetable-growing businesses.
He noted that the industry sees opportunities in improving on-farm productivity, lifting vegetable consumption, and developing markets both domestically and internationally.
Ausveg says it intends to work with Anderson on initiatives aimed at improving short, medium, and long-term outcomes for Australian vegetable growers.
