Southern Africa marks 15 years of fruit-sorting technology

Tomra Food and Masgcor-CSESA have reached 15 years of cooperation in South Africa and several neighbouring African countries, including Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, and Angola.

The partnership began in 2011, with Masgcor acting as Tomra's distributor for fresh large fruit. Masgcor integrates Tomra's sorting and grading technologies into turnkey projects that include design, manufacturing, installation, and after-sales support. The company operates service centres across South Africa, providing regional support for fruit producers using these systems.

In 2025, Masgcor introduced two Tomra technologies for the citrus sector: LUCAi, a deep-learning electronic platform, and a pre-grading application. These systems were added to help fruit packhouses expand their use of automated inspection tools.

Harald Henriksen, Executive Vice President and Head of Tomra Food, said: "Masgcor is more than a distributor; they are an extension of Tomra's values and vision in Africa. Their dedication to quality, service, and innovation has been instrumental in our shared success."

Both organisations indicated they will continue working on technology and service developments for fruit producers in Southern Africa as the sector adapts to new operational demands.
