Sjraar Hulsman, Frankort&Koning:

"Early start to the Egyptian strawberry season pressures Dutch and Belgian strawberry markets"

Autumn propagation of greenhouse strawberries has been calm so far. Volumes are at or below forecast, and prices have stayed stable. The recent warm spell, with temperatures reaching 18 degrees in Limburg, pushed supply up this week. As a result, auction volumes in Belgium and the Netherlands have been unusually high. Combined with high retail shelf prices, this surge pushed day trade prices down. Last week, auction prices were about 8 to 9 euros per kilo. One week later, they dropped to 4 to 5 euros, according to Sjraar Hulsman.

"At Frankort and Koning, we benefit from a broad customer base across Europe, and we can activate those channels quickly. Quality is excellent, and our flexible packaging helps us manage higher volumes from our growers as well as any surplus from the auctions. We are seeing short-term promotions in several markets. Cooler weather next week will reduce supply again. Once this week's volumes clear the system, supply and demand should return to balance, and prices should strengthen," Sjraar said.

Egyptian strawberry season starts early
"Our Egyptian strawberry season starts today. It is earlier than last year, which means we can supply European customers with fresh, high-quality strawberries with good brix levels for a longer period. Close cooperation with selected growers in Egypt allows us to guarantee a steady supply, consistent quality, and optimal freshness for retail, wholesale, and foodservice. The strawberries are grown in the fertile Nile Valley under ideal climatic conditions, using modern cultivation techniques and strict quality controls. This results in fruit with strong flavor, uniform appearance, and long shelf life."

"Daily air freight from Egypt ensures maximum freshness and fast availability through our European distribution network. From harvest to final delivery, each step is managed carefully to protect quality, efficiency, and continuity. Since last year, we have equipped all pallets with thermal covers to prevent temperature fluctuations during shipments from Egypt to the Netherlands. For retailers, this means reliable availability and a strong premium product. Retail, wholesale, and foodservice also benefit from flexible volumes, consistent specifications, and uniform product presentation."
