On November 7, a Boeing 777 cargo plane carrying 100 tons of Chilean cherries arrived at Ezhou Huahu International Airport. This event marks the beginning of a dedicated route that will run three to five flights per week during the 2025-2026 season.
According to Frutas de Chile, this marks the inaugural cargo charter flight of Chilean cherries departing from this terminal in the Hubei province and establishes a new route for Chilean fruit into China. The operation is handled by Ethiopian Airlines, which plans to run regular flights several times a week.
ProChile's Commercial Attaché in Beijing, Andrés Gebauer, and Chilean Ambassador to China, Pablo Arriarán, welcomed the inaugural flight, which coincided with the eighth anniversary of Chilean cherry shipments by Ethiopian Airlines.
"This marks a new beginning full of opportunities. Great success is possible by combining Chile's agricultural strengths with top logistics, innovation, and China's dynamic market," stated Pablo Arriarán.
The new route aims to boost Chilean cherry presence in the Chinese market by leveraging Ezhou airport's infrastructure to shorten arrival and distribution times during the export season.
