EastFruit analysts report a sharp increase in Moroccan lemon exports to the United Kingdom between November 2024 and August 2025. During this period, Morocco shipped 1,200 tons of lemons to the UK, valued at US$920,000. The exported volume was 40 times higher than the previous marketing year and exceeded the country's total lemon exports to the UK over the past decade.
This marks a new record for Moroccan lemon shipments to the UK, 12% higher than the previous peak set 17 years ago in the 2007/08 marketing year.
The UK has become one of Morocco's key fruit export destinations, ranking behind Spain and France. Since the 2023 marketing year, Morocco has been the UK's leading supplier of raspberries, and in the current year, it has also taken the top position in blueberries. Moroccan growers also supply strawberries, mandarins, watermelons, and avocados to the UK market, though lemon exports had remained limited for most of the past decade.
Spain, South Africa, and Brazil continue to dominate the UK lemon market, together accounting for over 80% of total imports. The Netherlands and Germany supply around 10%, while the remaining 10% is imported from other countries, including Morocco.
Following this increase, Morocco has improved its position among lemon suppliers to the UK, moving from 31st place in 2020/21 to 11th place after the first ten months of the current marketing year. This puts the country ahead of Vietnam and Mexico and close to entering the top ten suppliers.
Even if this ranking is not maintained through the end of the marketing year, the data reflects a recovery in Morocco's lemon exports after four consecutive years of decline.
