Vietnam fruit and vegetable exports set to exceed US$8 billion

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports totaled about US$7.05 billion in the first ten months of 2025, up 14.4% year-on-year. The sector is expected to exceed US$8 billion by year-end, driven by strong demand from China, the U.S., Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

According to Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VinaFruit), local exporters are adopting high-tech production systems and complying with traceability and food safety rules, enabling wider access to international markets.

Durian remained the top export, earning US$1.94 billion in the third quarter, up 30.3% year-on-year. Total durian exports reached US$2.76 billion in the first nine months. Other key crops such as dragon fruit, banana, mango, jackfruit, and coconut also grew, while lychee exports rose to US$73 million, up 312% from last year. Processed products accounted for 16.6% of total exports, reaching US$507 million, up 47.4%.

China's share of Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports increased to 20% of total imports, up from 17.9% last year. VinaFruit General Secretary Dang Phuc Nguyen said exporters must meet China's updated quarantine and traceability requirements.

Ngo Xuan Nam of SPS Vietnam added that China's new Order No. 280 on food manufacturer registration will take effect in June 2026, urging exporters to prepare accordingly.

The U.S. remains a potential market, though high freight costs continue to limit competitiveness. Vietnam is expected to expand sales of processed fruit and vegetables with longer shelf life to better suit market demand.
