US: Walmart could lose $2B if SNAP goes dark
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will run out in a few days, which could strain grocery stores that depend on this spending. The shutdown will halt about $8bln a month in federal food assistance. Australia: Coles reports 4% jump in revenues to $11bln for Q1 2026
Supermarket giant Coles has delivered a large jump in revenues to nearly $11bln for the first quarter of the new financial year, beating out arch rival Woolworths on growth. Coles booked a 3.9% lift in total group sales to $10.96bln compared with the prior year and a 4.8% jump in supermarket sales to $9.96bln. "Inflation in fresh produce eased, largely a result of abundant supply across fruit and vegetable categories including avocadoes, tomatoes and capsicum", the company said.
