Nortera to acquire Green Giant and Le Sieur brands in Canada

Canadian vegetable processor Nortera has announced plans to acquire the Green Giant and Le Sieur brands in Canada from U.S.-based B&G Foods. The transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, will transfer ownership of the two brands to a Canadian company for the first time. Nortera has been the exclusive producer of Green Giant and Le Sieur products in Canada for the past 30 years.

The Green Giant brand includes a range of frozen and shelf-stable vegetable products that will complement Nortera's existing portfolio, which includes Arctic Gardens and Del Monte.

Hugo Boisvert, Chief Executive Officer of Nortera, said the acquisition aligns with the company's long-standing role in Canadian vegetable processing. "With decades of expertise as the trusted manufacturing partner behind the Green Giant and Le Sieur brands in Canada, this acquisition ensures that these iconic brands, long produced in Canada, are now also locally owned," he said.

Nortera operates eight processing facilities across Canada, employing more than 2,100 people and working with over 400 local producers. The company said the acquisition would allow it to strengthen its position in the domestic food market and continue investing in production capacity.

The Green Giant and Le Sieur products will continue to be produced at Nortera's facilities in Tecumseh, Ontario; Lethbridge, Alberta; and Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. A C$28 million investment to upgrade the Quebec site was announced earlier this year.

The company also said it plans to maintain and expand partnerships with more than 100 growers and suppliers to reinforce local agricultural networks and support domestic production.
