Amazon targets as many as 30,000 corporate job cuts, sources say
Amazon is planning to cut as many as 30,000 corporate jobs, as the company pares expenses and compensates for overhiring during the peak demand of the pandemic, according to three people familiar with the matter. The figure represents a small percentage of Amazon's 1.55mln total employees, but nearly 10% of its roughly 350,000 corporate employees. This would mark Amazon's largest job cut since late 2022, when it started to eliminate around 27,000 positions.

Brazil: GPA CEO Marcelo Pimentel resigns, Rafael Russowsky named interim successor
Brazilian retail group GPA, the parent company of Pão de Açúcar supermarkets, has announced that its CEO, Marcelo Pimentel, has resigned. The news was officially confirmed by the company shortly after Pimentel submitted his resignation during a meeting with board chairman André Diniz. Following Pimentel's departure, Rafael Russowsky - GPA's current CFO and IR officer - was appointed as interim CEO.

US: Sprouts Farmers Market, Dollar General and others join DoorDash effort to help SNAP families
With Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding expected to run out in less than a week due to the U.S. government shutdown, DoorDash announced an Emergency Food Response for those affected. Customers who have linked a SNAP/EBT card to their DoorDash profile can shop at Sprouts Farmers Market, Dollar General, Schnucks, Ahold Delhaize brands, Hy-Vee and Wegmans, with delivery fees waived for one order.

US: Consumer Price Index - September 2025
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3% on a seasonally adjusted basis in September, after rising 0.4% in August, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The index for fruits and vegetables rose 1.3% and the index for dairy and related products increased 0.7% over the same period.

British retailers cut their prices in October, led by the biggest drop for food in almost five years, industry figures showed. Overall shop prices fell by 0.3% from September, the first month-on-month drop since March, the British Retail Consortium said.
