Calabria hosts national forum on clementine production

Around two-thirds of Italy's clementine production, and more than 60% of its cultivated area, are located in Calabria. The province of Cosenza alone accounts for 46% of national output, with the Sibari Plain and Corigliano-Rossano as key production areas.

From 23 to 25 October 2025, Corigliano-Rossano will host the first Clementina Festival, which includes a conference and round table at the Ducal Castle on Saturday, 25 October. The event will bring together Italian and international delegates, growers, and representatives from the citrus sector.

During the conference, Mario Schiano Lo Moriello, market analyst for fruit and vegetable production at ISMEA, will present updated data on Italy's clementine sector. The report will cover production volumes, value, consumption trends, and both domestic and export market performance. In 2024, Italy exported 78,000 tons of clementines from a total production of 668,000 tons, with Germany and Poland as the leading destination markets.

The ISMEA findings will be discussed by a panel of industry representatives, including members of the Clementina di Calabria PGI, producers, retailers, and international buyers. The discussion will also address the economic, environmental, and cultural importance of clementine production for the region. Speakers will include the Mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, Flavio Stasi, and the Commissioner of ARSAC (the Regional Agency for the Development of Calabrian Agriculture), Fulvia Caligiuri.

Luigi Bianchi, General Director of Macfrut, will represent Italy's main fruit and vegetable trade fair. His participation is expected to contribute to discussions on future industry development. The session will close with remarks from Calabria's Regional Councillor for Agriculture, Gianluca Gallo.

The conference will be preceded by B2B meetings between Calabrian producers and international importers from Poland and Northern Europe. Delegates, including trade journalists, will visit production sites across Calabria on Friday, 24 October.

The event will also highlight local heritage, with visits to the Sibari Archaeological Park and the Codex Museum in Rossano. A public event on Saturday evening will include clementine tastings and cultural activities.

The festival is organised by the Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano's Departments of Agriculture and Tourism, in collaboration with local Producers' Organisations and the Clementina di Calabria PGI Consortium. It is supported by the Calabria Region through ARSAC and coordinated with assistance from Omnibus, with technical support from Sorma Group.
