MSC has announced the launch of its Alpaca service in September 2025, timed to coincide with the Chilean cherry export season and offering direct connections between the Far East and the west coast of South America. The service will include routes from Ningbo, China, via Busan, South Korea, to Callao, Peru, with scheduled calls at Chilean ports.
The weekly standalone service will also provide connections to Bolivia's trade gateways through the ports of Arica and Iquique in Chile.

The Alpaca service will operate as MSC's Cherry Express during the cherry export season, aiming to offer a faster option for exporters supplying Asian markets. According to MSC, the service will utilise its iReefer technology to maintain shipment conditions and monitor cargo throughout the transport process.
The planned rotation is: Ningbo (China) – Busan (South Korea) – Callao (Peru) – Arica (Chile) – Iquique (Chile) – San Antonio (Chile) – Nansha (China) – Hong Kong (China) – Ningbo (China).
